Icelock sits in the far southern sea like the bolt of a door nobody is opening: a mountain-cored island sheathed in ice, ringed by pack half the year, claimed by the Maan Republic with a flag that has to be re-erected every spring. The claim is administrative; the island is not. Whalers use its lee, birds use its cliffs, and the ice uses everything, patiently, as material.
