The Silta Gida'Daara, the Bridge Mountains, arch across the far north like the vertebrae of something that once connected two worlds and no longer needs to. Their passes are high, short-summered, and honest: they kill the unprepared without malice and carry the prepared without complaint. Old road-stones of the Inarin age still pace the main crossing, worn to thumbs, and travellers touch them in passing the way one touches a railing, not for support but because it is there and has been for so long.
