- Visibly distinct from the Forest Bar: pointed ears, a much lighter complexion from cream to pale ochre, thinner lineage mottling, and softer horn-spurs.
- The towering, dense-boned Bar frame is otherwise unchanged; the strength remains.
- Randenist in faith, Maan in dress and speech, and Maan in civic habit.
- Most work as mercenaries; generations of imperial wars made the trade a tradition.
- They hold the Baramma Bar to be a backward branch, and are distrusted in turn as the cousins who took the empire's coin.
- A later-age people: they exist only centuries after the present era, not in the world of the novel.
