Swamp Socly
The Swamp Socly is a small, fragile winged creature of dense swamp and jungle understory, its olive-to-pale-green fine-textured skin providing effective camouflage among wet foliage and standing water. Two elongated membranous wings, semi-translucent and intricately veined, enable silent and controlled flight through cluttered vegetation; the creature has no forelimbs beyond its wings, navigating entirely on two clawed hind legs when grounded. Solitary, quiet, and rarely observed in direct daylight, it is a forager of the dim and the in-between.
Key traits
- Semi-translucent, intricately veined wings enable silent flight through tightly cluttered swamp vegetation without disturbing the canopy around it.
- Olive to pale green skin provides effective camouflage among wet foliage, moss, and the low light of the swamp understory.
- Two hind legs with four flexible clawed toes allow it to perch on reeds, vines, and soft bark when not airborne.
- A jaw structure suited for delicate plucking and nibbling supports a diet of airborne insects, soft plant material, and nutrient-rich sporebuds.
- Highly manoeuvrable and reliant on muted colouration, it avoids detection rather than fleeing, and is rarely observed during direct daylight.
